New guy with 2 easy questions re transfer case.

Hi- recent purchase '04 E500 4matic, 55,000 miles. Took to local MB dealer for oil change, trans fluid change, and general service check.

Question: they said not to bother with trans case and diff fluid change at this point. Mileage is pretty low but car is almost 10 yrs old. I should probably go back and get it done??

Also, why would there be service campaign for trans case issues 2005-07 but not '03-'04?
Don't those model years all use the same case so if problematic on an '05 why would same potential problem not rear it's head on an '04. Just wondering.

Thanks.

To properly answer your question you need to read the service campaign flyer----what's to be changed and for what VIN's.

55,000 miles is low mileage for transfer case and diff fluid!! However if changed it will give you piece of mind----change the fluid!!

FYI - beginning 05 maintenance sheet requires ATF & TCF change @ 39000 and I suggest every 40000 thereafter for both.

SC requirement for replacement, TC serial # must be between 115925 and 137342.

Ok. Thanks for info, will check trans case # on my car out of curiosity. Car runs great, shifts great, no odd noises..........except trying to get used to SBC pump cycling on and off at seemingly random times. Plenty of threads about that, lol......

Just trying to get up to speed on my 1st MB. Finally had to get rid of my BMW 740iL due to rust issues and wanted something newer, smaller, sportier, and awd. Think I've found it with the E500.
