E500 Glycol in Transmission. Swap in CLK500 tranny?
The fact that my 2003 E500 has a ruined transmission due to a poorly manufactured radiator is no surprise to most who own this year and model. I want to replace the trans with a used unit. Needless to say, most 2003 E500 722.633 transmission are probably garbage due to possible glycol contamination from the Valeo radiator. I was wondering if it is possible to install a different 722.6xx transmission from another model that may not have this problem. I know that the CLK500 uses the 722.633, too. Is this compatible or is the torque converter different? Are other model's transmissions compatible? Lastly, does anyone know of a good shop in the DC area to rebuild the transmission should I decide to go that route? Thanks.

Appreciate that your pissed, but to think that every 722.633 in the bone yards had a glycol problem is a huge leap of faith-----a 722.633 was matched to your differential and the TCU matched to the drive train------look for a 722.633 regardless of the donor car

220k miles and still going strong...
Hope u actually tested the oil for glycol and just not assuming it. I had the same symptoms as glycol contamination but 2 negative tests. Flushed out all 7+ liters and its been 120k since with regular drop and refill every 40k. Don't believe the lifetime oil story.
