K&N Filter

Anyone replace the factory filters with K&N? I just purchased K&N from an online retailer, and am curious if anyone noticed any difference in the sound from the engine, etc.

Thanks in advance,

I didn't notice any sound difference on my E55, but performance did improve, nothing to feel it though, it was at the track, about 1 tenth on the quarter mile, not bad for just the air filter.

Since there are two air filters on the car, you need to buy two K&N replacement filters. The cheapest I found on the internet was $38.88, each, no sales tax and free shipping.

Seems like a pretty good deal to me!

REally no difference in sound from the installation of the K&N's from my experience, but I had already done the exhaust at that point, so the exhaust sound may be louder than the K&N's if there is any. As for performance, can't really say either as I have done several things, including these other intake mods below...

compare your paper surface area to the K&N. on tests I have seen your paper filter will flow more air than the K&N not to mention the K&N will let in particles the paper filter will stop.

In short, I do not recommend the K&N and I would stick with stock paper elements. As a *gasp* ex BMW M3 owner I did the tests and went back to stock paper filters.
