Even in NZ the running cost is much less, in Europe I guess the difference is even more significant. Here our diesel costs about 60% of the cost of petrol, and the gas mileage seems to be about 50% better on diesel, so over all the cost should be between 1/3 and a 1/2 the cost of running on petrol.
Of course the main thing is how it drives, but the economy and ecology aspects are real bonuses. I wish we could get the real high performance diesel engines here, but they are either LHD only or our diesel is too unrefined for them. The E400 CDI and the C30 both seem like real interesting options.
