took out a 320cdi
this morining i decided to go 2 the mercedes dealership and have a look around. just 4 fun i decided to take a new 320cdi for a run-wow the pickup felt even better than a brand new clk500 altough i suppsoe it had more kays on it so the engine wouldhave been broken in. congrats to n e 1 hu owns 1.

I am getting my new 320 cdi next Saturday. I wanted to try the diesel because I had read so much about the new generation motors and I thought it was really great. I even walked around the car while it was running to make sure it wouldn't sound too funny from the outside and it's fine. It has almost as much torque as the 500 and develops it from 1800 rpm.
Even in NZ the running cost is much less, in Europe I guess the difference is even more significant. Here our diesel costs about 60% of the cost of petrol, and the gas mileage seems to be about 50% better on diesel, so over all the cost should be between 1/3 and a 1/2 the cost of running on petrol.
Of course the main thing is how it drives, but the economy and ecology aspects are real bonuses. I wish we could get the real high performance diesel engines here, but they are either LHD only or our diesel is too unrefined for them. The E400 CDI and the C30 both seem like real interesting options.
I will post more about my experiences with the new diesel once I actually have it to drive!!
