Wood/Leather Steering Wheel

Since we have lost a number of posts, can you please repost pictures if you have the Wood/Leather Steering Wheel. I remember seeing some pics of cars with this type of wheel and they looked nice. My dealer is willing to install it for $760.

That's a pretty good deal - I wish I had the leverage of a car on order. I just ordered the wood/leather wheel today for $700 plus about an hour or so of installation time. I'm hoping if I tell them I'll just wait for the install they will not stretch it out into a 2 hours job. Good luck with yours!

Bruce,
Does your car have the heated wheel option, and if so, were you able to order the wood/leather wheel with the leather portions heated?

rtrider - No heated wheel option on my car. Wish it did, though. I bought the car off the lot so I didn't have much choice on the options.

Did you used to be on the AudiWorld forums?

Bruce,
Thanks for the reply. I have an Audi A6, but was never on the AudiWorld forums, at least that I can remember.

Derek,
Did you order the wood wheel from the factory or have it installed after delivery? If the latter, do you have a part #? I can't find a wood wheel with the heated leather portions anywhere.
Thanks.

The wood wheel was factory ordered. The forum member who started this is Rupesh. I turned him onto my dealer and salesguy in Atlanta . I know there is a PN at your local MB parts dealer on this........he only needs the wood type and leather code.......

Let me know if you have problems and I will call around.

Derek.

Is there a different part number for the wood/leather steering wheel with the stitch leather going across the the middle of the steering wheel. I think that one looks sweet!

Here is the wood/leather steering wheel replacement. Installed by local dealer. Just give the part person the leather color and he should be able to order it from MB.

Thanks Nevada Jack and Derek. I'm going to ask my sales rep to go ahead and order the wheel. I would still like to see a picture if someone has a stone interior with Black Maple Wood wheel. I hope the contrast is not glaring. If no body has pictures, then I will post mine when I pick up the car in a couple of weeks.

I drove a 2003 with a Stone Interior and the wood wheel and it looked great to me.

I think most on this forum will agree that the wood/leather wheel really adds to the interior class of the vehicle.

I will post a shot of the car with the leather wheel and I think you will agree there is a big improvement.

Nevada Jack, I remember seeing that "before" and "after" pictures couple of months ago. It would be great if you can post that "before" picture again since I can't find it anymore. Also, the Stone interior car you mentioned, did it include the Black wood or Walnut?

See the before on the post above yours.

The Stone I drove was the walnut, not the black maple.

Dlau: Your interior looks very nice! Now that's the wood/leather steering wheel I want.

Does anyone know the part number for that particular steering wheel (stitch going accross)? Unfortunately, you can't order the wood/leather steering wheel with appearance package from factory for 2004. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

It has become my understanding that they do not replace the whole wheel if you have dealer install it. they only switch out the actual outer wheel portion, leaving the center airbag portion alone... if this is the case, I doubt you can get the cool leather stitching, unless this is a new order item, maybe different PN, I hope. I also would like the leather stiching over the plastic.

I asked my dealer about the center part with the stitching. Apparently this is only if wheel installed at factory which is only the case with non-appearance or euro-delivery. Sorry no part number. However, i do think the regular center piece also looks just as nice.

Thanks for the info regarding the stitch wood/leather steering wheel. Looks like I'll be getting the non stitch and no doubt it does looks nice also. Just like the stitch leather alittle better.

Hi,

I think most of you are right, only the factory installed option comes with the leather stitched air bag cover. Mind is actually dealer installed, but with a story behind it. My car was a Navi replacement 03' and when I order my Navi car, I added the wood steering wheel option. But the sales manager of my dealer somehow ordered the car w/out it and he thought he would just added it at the dealer when the car arrive. Of course I am getting the plastic cover version, so I made some complaint, plus the dealer owe me some favour because they messed up some other things before. Finally, they special ordered the leather stitched air bag cover and swapped it for me.

Drive Dynamic Seats

Hi.....I've got an E500 4Matic with Premium, Appearance, Heating Package and Parktronic on Order and am moving to MB from a BMW 5 Series (530i sport). I am hoping that the drive dynamic seats - which includes multi-contour option - will approximate the feel of the sport seat that I have in my present 2001 BMW. Unfortunately, I have not had a chance to see, let alone sit in, one of these seats and have no idea how they feel or if they will make the car feel "sportier." I love the way my BMW drives but do not like the look of the new 5 series. So, I'm hoping to approximate the "feel" of the BMW in a MB. Is that possible to achieve?

Any advice will be appreciated. Also, if anyone can recommend any other additional options that I may regret not purchasing, I'd love to hear your advice.

This forum is great, by the way.
Thanks again,
Jim
