SBC Extended Warranty
Directive dated 6/5/09 documents when performing US Service 13, 14 (alternate 1 & 2-year service) or routine maintenance on vehicles with SBC, MBUSA requires dealer to check the service life of SBC Control Unit. If during the “Service Life Check” SDS states the service life has been reached, replace the control unit.
Interesting observation there is no mention or reference to instrument cluster (IC) of Multi Function Display (MFD) warning display implying SDS may require replacement proactively before actual service life is reached or warning is displayed.
If SBC needs replacement past extended warranty expiration, may be worth the effort for those who have their vehicles serviced through dealers to have MB confirm that dealer performed required SBC Service Life Checks. Not certain where this information would be documented (assuming VMI) but if dealer failed to perform checks one may be able to successfully argue MB should approve no cost replacement.
Goodwill SBC replacement "consideration" out of warranty :
- Dealer performed maintenance
- Documentation maintenance was performed (at the very least required brake fluid changes)
- Dealer performed Service Campaigns 2004050014, 2005070007, and 2005110001 if applicable
- Dealer failed to perform SBC Service Life Checks during any routine maintenance

or must I argue with the dealer that the car simply would not stop after warning activated?
