Well I decided to go with the GDE tune. I ordered it and was surprised to get it the next day. I just loaded the tune about an hour ago. I did 30 min or less drive. I know its a little early to give a full review, however just based off the computer my mpg was 3mpg better then normal in same driving conditions. I never did floor it, but just at part throttle a huge increase in throttle response and power. I will be going on a long drive this weekend and will see what kind of MPG I will get.

With the supplied programmer can you read and clear codes? Did GDE have any other tunes available for our CDI's? I read that the programmer can hold up to three.

Will do.
Yeah it can read and clear codes. Only the one tune. Too be honest as much power increase i noticed on this "eco" tune I really don't think i would want anything more radical anyways in fear of hurting the tranny etc.
If I were to make a guess though. Since all the tuners seem to have the same peak numbers. Maybe the injectors or turbo or something is maxed at that point anyways.
I will report back after this weekend though after some more driving time, but so far very happy.

Trany is rated some where at 770 lbs torque, thus why it was used in AMG cars for while until they get 7G problems sorted out. Now you can share you tune w/some one close to you and split the cost, since you have the programmer.

I was thinking about some of the higher horsepower vehicles with the same tranny. I do wonder though if they have the same internals , or if they have differant torque converters and clutch packs.

The VIN will be locked with any tuner so you cannot share tunes otherwise the would not make any money.

Will hold at least up to 500 ft lbs w/o problem.
By the way did you download your original file to the programmer before uploading modified file, just curious?

Yeah.
I have the original file and the modified one. Both are loaded on the tuner. And I have them saved on my pc also.
BTW He actually has you pull the original one , and send it to him first before modifying it and sending it back.
You are probably right on the vin modifying , but not something I would want to do. Would be like stealing in my opinion.

Well I did a long drive today. About 200 miles. Unfortuantly there was 30+ mph cross and head winds so wasn't really about to get a good idea on fuel economy as it was about a mpg lower then normal which is probably pretty good considering how strong the winds were.

Boostfiend, long term update please.
I've seen a recent boost in MPG on my stock '05 CDI with 88k miles. I believe it may have been my first tank of summer diesel since purchasing last November. I got over 600 miles on the tank and the computer reported 30.4 MPG AVG.
What has your city MPG been with the GDE tune?
Thanks!

Is the GDE tune the only tune for E320cdi that disables EGR in addition to the power/mpg gains?
I was reading an older thread and the carlsson box looked great, but at twice the price and no EGR disable....
What is the best all around tune for this car now that it's been out awhile? Eurocharger/Carlsson/Brabus/GDE/etc?
Where can you get these cheap as well? I assume the box type tunes can be purchased used unlike the flash/remap style.
Not sure what direction to go here, want mpg + and power +. Buying a high mileage (not really) CDI soon and think the egr delete might be smart...

They all disable EGR IIRC. The numbers are about the same as all the others. I'm almost positive that they get their maps from one another.
240hp and 450tq. It's enough to take any stock Pickup, Mustang, Camaro, and Porsche I have some up against. I hung with a SRT8 Challenger. Mind you these are on highway and a 50-60mph take off. From the line...not sure what would happen. Taking off now, the tires have trouble not spinning freely. The car is downright dangerous in the rain with no ESP. I kicked it off the other day in the rain just to see. A light throttle kicked the car off sideways. I did it again at 30mph or so and it did the same thing.
As for the guy in Louisville, he setup a turbo on a CLK with the AEM FI/C. He is very bright with tuning. Not sure of his shop name but I can find it again.

What does the rocket chip cost? Is it a "fooler" or is it a more elegant and "safe" remap built for longevity/efficiency (with a little power boost)? Where did you buy it/ how much? Any black smoke?
As far as the tuners, Adam Blevins, Ryan Potter, and Billy Roberts are the best in the area (or used to be). Wonder if it's one of those guys.

Rocket Chip is an ECU tune, not a chip. He remaps the injectors for duration, and pushes the boost a little IIRC. No black smoke.
Not sure, I am having trouble finding his information. I lived in Southern IL and he was the closest.

Hmm not excited about turning up the boost at all...
Let me post my question from another thread which better explains:
What is the consensus on what the best "tune" is for the E320cdi? I'm not trying to break records, just want safe, clean, efficient, power/mpg boost and disable the egr.
I have read about the brabus, carlsson and kleenman box's (can't seem to find a used one for sale anywhere) and GDE, Rocket chip maps/chip.
Perhaps there are better options? Or one of the above is the best option?
Again I'm trying to run the car at least up to the 400k miles my 190 had before selling to someone who drives it 200 miles a day... So nothing that will hurt longevity, and of course will disable egr. So what should I go with?
Thanks

Some people have asked for updates on the GDE tune. Sorry I have not been on the forum in some time!
My MPG is still really good, in town average is 32-34 with no AC , ( I live in a small town though without much stop and go traffic) Highway is 36-38 depending on how windy it is and AC use etc.
I am still really happy so far with the tune. I drive like a old lady most the time , but it has tons of power if I need to get on it.

I'm putting a Malone tune on my stock 2000 ALH TDI. I'm bundling that with a dynamic EGR delete, which allows the EGR to function on warm up only. I'm going to check with Malone to see if they have a "Dynamic EGR" option for the 3.2 CDI tune.
"Stay tuned"
