"Nav ready" on 2004 E320?

Guys, I'm looking at an 04 E320 and it is "Nav ready" It has the larger screen for the Nav but when I press the "Nav" button, it says Nav module is not found. I presume that I can just have the Nav module added and it will work -- I forgot to ask the salesman about it last night.

Is this common for 04s??? Is it really "nav ready?"

It may well be, but I'd advise that if you want the feature, that you make sure it is installed and operational before you take delivery of the car. I expect the dealership will be a key ingredient in making this work for you if, in fact, they agree to retrofit it.

Plus its only $1200! That's cheap for a Nav system.

It doesn't make sense why they'd go through all the trouble installing the display but hold off on the nav unit -- well I guess it does make sense from their perspective.

I'll make sure to have them add it in. I don't think it's a matter of retrofitting since the screen is already installed with the NAV buttons on the side. I think it's a matter of hooking up the module itself.

There is a lot of discussion on the forum that the reason the put in the larger head unit is because there were problems with the old (non-nav) one that cause intermittent audio and other electrical problems, so they just decided to put the Nav head unit in all cars. This is also why DVD NAV only costs $1200 compared to last years $2125.
