Brakes squeaking on 04 E500

I can't believe it that my car has the brake squeaking problem. It was built on Sep 16th and I picked it up on factory delivery October 8th. Does anyone know if MB has a solution? I was reluctant to get my car until most problems had been solved so now I'm very disappointed. I had thought that I had waited long enough but obviously not long enough. Sorry to bring up this issue again but simply had to vent my feelings.

Apparently the problem seems to have gone unnoticed. Perhaps Germans aren't very good at listening :-(?

03 E320 had the problem since it was bought brand new and it has never gone away. It's not too big of a problem because wind noise and adequate music volume made the noise unnoticeable.

well, there may well be something wrong with your cars in particular.

But in general, the stopping habits of US drivers are different then in Euope. In the US, we almost never make hard stops from high speeds, its mostly low speed "soft" stops. So the pad is never re-surfaced.

When you wash the car, pay special attention to flush through the wheel (not when the brakes are hot!). Try some hard stops from speed, not a panic stop, but some firm stops coming off exit ramps with no one behind you, to see if you can resurface the pads a little.

I'm sorry. It's not the brakes but the brake pedal which makes a noise whenever I apply the brakesl My car has only 35 miles on it.

Local dealer here in Phx., thus far has gotten my brake pedal "poik" sound fixed. This was previously posted by me about a week ago, including the service codes. Look for title, "brake squeak revisted".

Thanks Carnaught. I'm also in the Phoenix area and would hope that the problem can really be solved since yours is ok but one of my friends has had his car in several times for service but the problem is still there. My immediate concern is that I bought two 04 E500's on tourist delivery and have this one up for sale. I don't know what to tell a prospective buyer when he hears the noise.

How's it you bought two E500's? How do you know they have the problem (i.e., have you taken delivery yet)? What dealer do you deal with locally? One poster told me his problem was the same as mine, was fixed, then came back, so I'm hoping for the best after 10 days with peace and quiet .

Angry UPDATE

No sooner do I make the statement in my last post when I note THE SQUEAK IS BACK.....it's the SAME or worse.

My (new) conclusion is they don't know (after two times)how to fix it!

Hi,

check with your local MB service center. The brake noise has come out a MOD for it. I have not yet send in my E500 for service, but I heard our service tech has a new MOD for it.

Since my car was JUST in, I assume I had the latest effort applied (unsuccessfully) to my car

Carnaught - I believe you picked up your E500 on Oct 6th and I picked mine up on Oct 8th.
They were probably both produced in the same lot from the same box of parts. I may not know what is found on my car since I sold it yesterday and the new owners are going to use a different dealer for service. I am going to pick up another E500 at the factory on Dec 8th with more options and somehow I hope they have solved the problem for my November production car. By the way, if you ever pick up a car during the Christmas season there is a very large "Christmas Mart" in downtown Stuttgart from the last week in November until December 23rd. Don't miss it.

I bought my car in Az. at the end of Jan. '03. It's an E320 but I do not believe that the brake squeak while not uncommon, is a widespread problem.
