All of a sudden, the outside temp is readeing 20d higher than actual. The temp has always been dead-on as read from an infra-red calibration unit. No trauma to the front bumper--any thoughts?

BTW...just recorded the best ever...40.1 mpg on a road trip. Amazing.

My first guess, the little thermostat thing probably popped out its holder inside the front bumper and is now reading temperature from under your car.
