How to disable an automatic boot cover

Hi folks
I have an E220 CDI estate, the automatic boot cover is malfunctioning so each time I close the boot, the cover comes down and then makes a terrible loud noise for approximately 20 seconds. It seems the ratchets are not catching.
A garage tried to repair it but the problem reoccurred. I would like to disable it.
The fuse associated with it is also controlling the boot closing mechanise so I need another way to disable it.
Any Ideas??? I just need a temporary fix until I find a Mercedes garage to repair the problem.
Thanks in advance.

If you don't want to properly fix the problem(not by going to a pubgrub mechanic), I suggest you weld a couple of pieces of angle iron to the boot and keep it open!!
