I hate to pour water on the fire, but 19X8.5 et 29 rubs the guard on the front with a 255 front tyre. If you inset the wheel more to stop the guard rubbing, it will rub on the inside.
In case you think I am being melodramatic read this first

so... let me ask you a question... have you actaully put 20s on your car or have you only read up on it? cuz i think we would know from putting numerous 20 inch rims on e-classes also 20x9.5 in the front. ofcourse if you want to lower your car a lot and have big rims you run the risk of it hitting your fenders... but thats the price you pay for fixing up your car.

yea the guy who was talking about the sl55 said he fitted 20s... but stephens isnt the guy who posted that.... so if youre not speaking from experience then you dont really know.

The problem is the fronts you are suggesting, not the rears. I run a 285 rear no problem on my car, with a 19X9.5 et35 rim. The fronts are the problem and I am talking from experience. There is NO WAY you can run a 20X9.5 or 9 rim without dangerous rubbing on an Airmatic car.
Would you like a pic of my carved up front tyre, so we can all be clear on the definition of dangerous rubbing??
Brabus for example lists a 20X9.5 only for the rear and the 19x8.5 for the front as the maximum sizes on the W211 and these will still rub.

BryBenz, Brabus lists the 20X9 et23 and 20X10et23 with 255 and 305's respectively for the SL55, contrary to what you have said. You should have the courtesy of knowing your facts before speaking as an expert, let alone mocking someone else.

Whilst I agree a 20 looks great, as soon as an airmatic car exceeds 60mph, the suspension electronically lowers itself. If you are a boulevard poser and don't care about occaisionally requiring panel work to fix your guards go for the 20's in the sizes you are suggesting. If you drive hard and fast, don't even consider them.

There are people on these boards who could potentially make decisions on the misinformation you are providing.

The fronts on my car rub and have already destroyed a tyre.

Funny that, I am friends with the local Brabus distributor and he has this combo fitted to his car. The fitting from the Brabus dealer catalogue is part #'s 622-900-23RDK which is a 9JX20 H2 offset 23 and 622-050-23RDK 10.5JX20 H2 offset 23.
Both are listed as requiring part 230-105-91 "modifications required for VERSION II for sufficient wheel coverage and clearance with 20" wheels."
You probably can't access the wheels except through a Brabus distributor who can modify the bodywork of the car to Brabus specs.
edit: The 19X8.5 front fitting for the W211 is also listed as requiring these modifications.

If you put 255 on the front with that LOW it will rub of course, U need to make the car higher OR reduce the tire size to 235

I KNOW that 20x9.5 is not recommended for the front. BUT some people like the look of the deep dish in the front and like to stretch the limits.

if your fenders are warped using only 19s, then you are a bad driver. thats all there is to it. having 19s on your e is like having 18s on a smaller car.... even my girlfriend can drive that no problem. the only way i can percieve your fenders being warped while riding on 19s is if your car is sooo low that the tire is tucked halfway into the fender. and i can see by your pics that it is not.

Being a bad driver, is that the best you can come up with??
You are right about one thing, it should not rub, but it does, not when driving normally, only when entering driveways at an angle with a reasonable curb, ie petrol stations, but even at very low speeds. I am going to get the guards re-rolled and reworked to try and get a little more clearance.
My point is that you suggested 20x9.5's and 20X9's fit a W211. They don't, but you can use them if you are careful and are prepared for the potential consequences.
There is a big difference between the two statements.
One is truthful the other is not. Which did you use??

BRABUS Monoblock VI, double spoke design, 9.5Jx20 for rear axle, multi-piece, tires 255/30 ZR 20 RA
BRABUS Monoblock VI, double spoke design, 10Jx20 for rear axle, multi-piece, tires 305/25 ZR 20 RA

Supposedly there is a 20x10.5 fitment for the SL

I apologise if I have come across as attacking you. I think at times people who are into modifying cars have a different perspective to the norm and are willing to accept compromises that many consumers wouldn't.
My original purpose was to temper the glib statments of what will and won't fit, with a modicum of balance, so that potential purchasers of these size wheels realise what they may potentially be getting into.

stephens: dont worry about it. we all enjoy a little difference of opinion sometimes ofcourse when you are modifying cars you have to know that there will be some adverse effect that will cause the comfort level of the ride to go down. many people are prepared for this and can sacrifice comfort for looks.
