E-Class Estate

We considered ordering the 500 but my wife said the 320 was just fine and we didn't go 4matic as the conditions in socal are tame.
rear cargo area is a bit tighter but works well and cargo management is much improved.
I have ordered the E320CDI Avantgarde in Teallite Blue. The E500 Estate and the 4Matic are not available.
Fortunately here on the West coast we do not have any snow, so I would not want the 4Matic. Mind you I have heard it is an
excellent vehicle.
I have selected the extending and retracting Easy Pack Load Floor, along with the electronically opening and closing tailgate. The other Easy Pack option I ordered was the Fixing Kit which I believe comprises of a sliding metal bar, and some securing straps.
All the other options are the general E-Class ones.

I did not get the cargo system as mostly I leave the 3rd seat up and the kids always want to ride back there. Must be something about going backwards. You will be very happy with the car.
It's interesting to note the different options that are/are not available in the different countries. Do the latest US imports have the optional Active Headlamps (another of my options) These Bi-Xeon lights turn in the direction of the steering wheel. It's supposed to offer in excess of 80% greater illumination when negotiating bends.
Bye for now,

Thanks for the reply, my children envy you having snow and ice in the winter. Me, I'm not so sure.
Last year we had a slight frost one morning and it was the first time my wife reported hearing the traction control cut in on our 2000 model 320CDI. There were a number of older Range Rovers sliding on the isolated patch.
Does the 4Matic have a large effect on fuel economy? You ought to write your President a note asking him to only refine/import low sulphur content diesel. The CDI engines are a revelation. No smell, no smoke, extremely quiet and they love streettchhing out the fuel. (in excess of 35mpg) and servicing once every 24,000 miles. (22,359 in our old car)
For the speed freaks the 400CDI has a similar torque rating to a Ferrari 355 (alledgedly)

The car does have the Active Headlamps although this to me seems an overrated feature by the MB marketing dept. As for the fuel economy, I haven't had the car long enough to really evaluate it but I expect at least a few mpg less than w/o 4matic.
Interestingly my dealer said the first batches of wagons for the US were made w/o the 3rd row and these have not been easy to sell. Apparently most people want the 3rd row.

Thanks for the information and the third row of seats is also available over here and I have indeed seen a few cars with them although I must confess that I have never seen them being used.
However they are very handy as you say for the occasional use.
We have an Estate to chaffuer our German Shepherd about (being of German decent he refuses to travel in anything other than a German automobile
It's quite funny, if my wife puts on her walking boots he tries to hide under the kitchen table, but if she picks up the car keys then he runs to the hook where his lead is kept. I keep telling her to put on her walking boots then pick up the car keys, but she thinks I'm cruel.
