2005 E320 (gasoline)
Fuel Pump/Filter Sound --- Rough Engine
Hello All,
2005 E320 automatic transmission, gasoline, 143k miles.
Engine has inconsistent rpm at idle speeds (800 rpm, down to 650 & back)
When driving, fluctuations feel similar to hitting water puddles or driving in gusty winds.
Suspicious of fuel pump/filter, I removed the back seat and uncovered the fuel pump/filter insulation & cover plate.
When driving, the pump/filter is making a high pitch whirring sound, similar to cicada or cricket sounds. Not loudly, but easy to hear.
Is that typical?
Indication of a pump problem?
(spark plugs & MAF changed last year)
