SATVAV CD question
Good day! I still have the 2003 satnav cd on the boot of my car. its not a big deal but i could use the latest map MB supplied for Australia which in our case was released 2010 (4yrs old is better than 11yrs old).
problem is dealer is charging AU$500 for the CD alone. my question is, a friend of mine owns a 2006 E55 with the latest version of the cd. he said he has a satnav cd on the boot and on the glove as well? i only have it on my boot. Also, he said he can copy the cd and give it to me. would it work like that as a plug and play or do I still need to update the software? thanks guys!

why dont you use a smartphone or a tablet? It's way cheaper and easier + plus real time traffic updates. I wanted to upgrade my CD,Radio unit but it's a $500 upgrade. I don't know why chinese don't make cheap aftermarket units for Mercedes. There's tons of GPS unit for a any Japanese cars on Ebay pricing from $150 to $250 for a set up which blows any OEM Units. I mean it's cheap and not reliable but still for 2011 Camry you can get central unit which includes GPS Nav, 7" Touch Screen display,MP3,Videos,Wi-fi,Bluetooth and rear back up camera fpr only $200.

despicable merc, dont wanna go that route at the moment. I want to keep all the steering wheel function and the dash board screen for my satnav.
Honcho, nobody sells the cd here. ive been looking all over but no luck, has to go through the dealer. thats why Im trying to find out if copying the cd would work. when you say you got "an update", did you mean you bought a later version CD or was it a software update?
spoke to another dealership yesterday and they can give it for AU$415. and the good news is the guy told me that no software upgrade necessary. will wait for my friends cd and try it, then we'll try to copy it and see if it works.

update: we tried my mates satnav cd (version 14, latest and last one that came out is version 16. I still have verion 2.1) on my car and it didnt work. does anybody know why and how we can make it work?

I was dumb enough to purchase a new CD for $250 USD a while back. Turns out to be a complete waste of money because 2007 maps and 2013 maps in my area haven't changed at all.. it'd be nice if we could install some kind of mirroring feature so that we can just load our phone maps onto the nav screen.. I think sometimes if a pirated nav disk was poorly created, the nav system won't be able to read the nav disk at all or the nav system could burn out completely because it can't read fast enough.

I guess for me, it might be worth the AU$500. there's been a lot of changes since then. from V2.1 to V16. im just trying to see if i can save a few hundreds in the process if I can.
