2006 E320 CDI Transmission locked up
My Trans would lock into whatever gear it was in about 3 years ago . It would do this 2 times a year and I would simply pull over and cycle the key and everything would be fine for another 6 months .
In the past 4 months this bad behavior has progressed in frequency from every 6 months to daily . Tonight it has failed completely and only has 1st , Park and reverse and will not reset at all . The Trans has all it's gears and is well maintained and full of fluid . It has no response to the Sport/Cruise button or the tiptronic shifting . It had a yellow engine light on for about 10 minutes but the next time I started the car it was gone !
I have read evil things on the net about electronic valve body failures costing $3500 to fix this problem . My local Indy isn't open until Monday 7/7/14 . Please any and all thoughts are welcome .
This has been a highly maintained car but has been quirky with electronic issues that resulted in the engine brain being replaced in 2011 for $1800 . If this is another MB up the backside with no grease deal where I am expected to pay $3500 for costly major electronic parts , I am done with this love affair ! Major electronic items like main brains and the like don't routinely fail on other cars . Where as MB's are all over the net with customers eating huge repair bills for there R&D electronic failures ! Please help . Signed : A fast fading abused MB diesel fan .
Hope your 4th is better than mine .

Sorry that you are having issues with your cdi. Please try the following transmission reset:
Just Put the key in ignition, turn to pos 2, floor pedal for 5 to 20 seconds (nobody really knows who long it really takes), turn key back to off, leave it in the ignition though, then release gas pedal, wait until your cluster goes off (that's when your CAN-B CAN-Bus shuts down) and remove the key. Lock the car if you want or need to so you can go back inside the house.

Thanks for the input . Just did the reset and it didn't help immediately so I did it again and left the car to sit in case it needs time to reset . Also when you put the car into D it shifts into gear with a hard jolt .

I'll make two guesses:
.
- You haven't had it diagnosed by someone with a Star DAS/Xentry, (which you will have to do)
- If it's not the EVB, you need a new transmission conductor plate
.

ok couldn't remember my dad had an 05 CDI and I couldn't remember what it had.
The good news is it is probably either the Conductor Plate or the electrical connector full of oil. I would also check the TCU for oil as I know on the w203 that is really common when the connector starts leaking oil goes up the wires into the TCU. I assume your shop uses MB approved fluids as you said it has been serviced.

Hi,
Could anyone please direct me to where I could find step by step info instructions on how to download codes and software required to re-code parts that need VIN id, for e.g Gear selector (ISM) change or changing any part of a GL164.
The process of where to find the data and coding and how to recode from 'used or virgin state'.
What star would I need to buy and what must the software be able to do.
I know there are star machines out there that don't have complete software's.
If this information is already on the net please direct me where it is as I cant seem to find it and fear am not addressing it properly and it eludes me or there is so little of it, the Gurus need to get to work. How does one go about using that software.
Thank you kindly
