COLD AIR INTAKE on E55 amg

hi all.

i have a question on custom cold air intake for my E55 amg 04.
if you follow the link:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mercedes-Benz-AMG-Performance-Cold-Air-intake-System-S55-CLS55-CL55-E55-SL55-/151327164629?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item233bcd48d5&vxp=mtr
you ll see what i am talking about. i'm not really sure what difference it will really make in regards with hp and milage.
anyone has any experence on this matter? is it worth 500 usd plus 200 usd shipment and another 100 or so for installation?

thanks in advance.

My guess is you are in the fun Georgia...not the one in the US.

Answer is no. It uses Spectre parts which are available at any Pep Boys or Advance Auto in the US. Similar parts are available on Amazon or Ebay. You can piece together a system for half the cost yourself. This is just my opinion.

If you can source the parts locally then its worth it to do it your self. Don't pay to have it installed. If you cant get the parts locally it's a pretty good kit for the money but the shipping cost is ridiculous.

Since you are outside the US, I would look at the picture and try to find similar silicon hoses for yours. Not sure about power but there should be a small jump as well as mileage.

it is but the plastic tubing gets too hot in the engine, thus not so much of cold air.

The metal piping will get just as hot as plastic tubing. If you prefer the chrome metal and silicone tubing for the appearance, that's fine. But thinking the metal piping won't get as hot as the plastic is close to silly.

Lol the metal piping will act as a heatsink if anything as opposed to the plastic which probably has better insulating effect for the cold air. Even if it is the same in that respect, it's been proven that black colored piping and components have a higher emissivity than shiny silver piping when there is no airflow over the component, such as the outside of the intake pipes.

true, it will get just as hot, but will loose that temp far easier than those of plastic.
so i think it will not do much on power gain, but however it will cool down faster and not much power loss will occur on consecutive runs.
if it does nothing, then whats it for? i couldnt care less about the chrome looks and ****... i just want a little more performance.

There is a thread on another forum section about using a CLK intake instead of the E class. The E sits on top the motor and heats up the air vs the CLK and ML intake that is away from the motor and considered a true cold air intake. When tested it gave the same HP numbers and in some cases more than other companies. Not saying this is a good choice, but if you are after more power I would think a pulley would be a better choice for the money.

definitel, pulley will make a world of a difference but i wanna get the car to be more efficient, i.e. get more air in for better fuel combustion.

off the topic here buts still, i sitting on stock rims which are 9J, therefore i need 265/35 or 255/35 rear tires. i put M/S tires on, the ones that look like a christmas tree n i keep burning rubber. i race a lot in the city, so i need something other than slicks for better launches. please advise me smthng that will give me my true acceleration of a dead stop, cause at the moment i cannot swtch the esp off. if i do, i keep burning rubber and get a too slow start.
thanks.

Once again, I honestly doubt there will be any difference with the cold air intake setup you're talking about. Your money is better spend somewhere else such as a pulley, nor will it make the car more efficient.

Not sure what tires you're referring to, if you're in Europe though check out the Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta, a lot of SRT8 guys use them here.

I am terribly confused by this thread. You want a cold air intake for better fuel economy but you race all the time in the city? I say keep your foot off the pedal will help more than a CAI. If you want one, I gave my suggestion. Do a search...your question has been answered in other threads.
