E320 CDI in the US

Just read a small article from a British MB Enthusiast magazine, the E320 CDI with 7G transmission will land in the US fall 2004. Can anyone confirm?

I also heard that the current US diesel fuel contains high sulfur. By 2006 it will be as good as European diesel fuel. If this is the case, does MB need to modify their diesel engine to adapt to US diesel fuel?

Thanks,

I run several diesel welding machines and various other diesel powered equiptment at work and I'm constantly having to refuel this machinery.... I can tell you first hand that most diesel powered machines are wonderful, very powerful, easily maintained, not to meantion their alot quieter these days..... Now I may get bashed by a few diesel owners on this board, but I can't understand why anyone would want one in their car.... I mean no one needs to tell me the benifits of a diesel engine but just for the fact that the tiniest drop spilt on your hands or clothing and your going to stink all day long..... I know the minuite I come home from work my ol lady knows instantly I been refueling the welder on my truck.... Just this fact and this fact alone I would never consider a diesel engine in any of my cars.... Maybe I'm just a slob or what.

Didn't meantion another negitive is the availabilty of diesel fuel.... Yea... I know where to get it in my neighborhood too... I'm talking about in areas were not familiar with...Not every station sell it....Oh Yea...No disrespect to you diesel heads out there just giving my .02

Yes, the E320 CDI will debut in the spring of 2004 as a 2005 model. It will have a turbocharged 6 cylinder engine featuring electronic fuel injection and new common rail diesel technology, which supplies constant fuel pressure to each of the injector valves. It will only pass current 45 state emissions standards, but should pass all 50 states when low sulfur diesel fuel becomes available in 2007. The ratings are 201 hp and 369 lb-ft torque.

Sorry, I only know the technical aspects. Maybe a search on the web will yield some numbers?

Question

Can you confirm that 2005 E320 CDI will have the 7-G transmission and will 4-matic option be available?
My dealer did not know.
Thanks, Marian

In all likelyhood it will not be offered with 4Matic. Which to me is a shame, but if you look at what is offered in Europe, they don't have a 4matic option on ANY CDI.

I have no clue on the 7-g.
