Check Engine OBD2 P2096
(OBD2) P2096 - Post Cat Fuel Trim, system too lean.
Check Engine light illuminated with the above code and codes with Autologic are:
P2013/P2055 Major Leek in Evap. P200C RT o2 sensor BTWC RT Aging. P200E RT 02 sensor ATWC level above applicable threshold.
The car runs fine. No hesitations on acceleration, no misfiring.
The suggestion was to change the FR o2 sensor. That was completed and after driving the car, with multiple starts and shutdowns, the Check Engine light illuminated again about 4 hrs later. The next day, the CE light did not illuminate the entire day. On day 3 the CE light illuminated again and it was suggested to change the LEFT REAR o2 sensor. After that was completed and the codes cleared the light remain extinguished for approx. 2 hours of constant driving, then illuminated again.
I have read the text regarding the P2096 code on the http://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/ site.
Any further help from the membership would be greatly appreciated. I am not looking forward to a costly diagnostic bill.
"I am not looking forward to a costly diagnostic bill".-----well if you continue to stick with auto logic bunch that is what you are in for----find someone who has and more importantly knows how to use DAS Xentry the MB factory diagnostic equipment.
FYI all the BS of change this and then oh well then it's gotta be the other side so lets change that-------that's much more expensive plus your auto logic bunch hasn't solved a thing!!
The result was suggestion on replacement of all 4 O2 sensors at a estimated cost of approx $800.00+-.
Since this was the same diagnoses (not all 4, but 2 on the same side) I say bullxxxx. Something has to be causing the codes for bad O2 sensors to come up as we had already replaced 2 O2 sensors on the same side which was what the code suggested.
Thank God that in the following week the vehicle began have sounds like an exhaust leak and was getting louder and louder as the day progressed with exhaust fumes inside the cabin....Bingo.
I Took it back to my original mechanic and as soon as he started it up and heard it he said.."well this will take care of both of your issues..the check engine light and the suggested repair".
He inspected the front right exhaust before the forward CAT and found a weld break. He suggested taking the vehicle and see if that weld break can be rewelded.
After a successful weld at a local welding shop and $65, the vehicle runs normally.
My question to the mechanic that did the weld was...did he reset the check engine light? He said no..as soon as the weld was completed and he started the vehicle, the light was extinguished. (and has been for the last 5 months)
I was very happy giving MBZ all "1s" on their follow up survey
