Don't Want my Low Profile Wheels Anymore

I live on Long Island, NY where every road has a pothole. I've spent thousands replacing blown out tires. I have a 2007 E350 with 18x8.5" wheels and a 245/40 tire. I would like to replace these with a 16" wheel and a tire with a higher sidewall. I believe I need an aftermarket wheel but not sure who makes one that would be compatible with the E350. I'm told I need a 16x8.5" wheel with a 38 offset and 5x112mm lug configuration. Does anyone know if this wheel is made or have any other suggestions? My goal is to get a sturdier tire on the car that can better take the potholes. Thank you very much.

They aren't sexy but 16" wheels sure make nice pot-hole stompers. I'd strongly reccomend getting OEM 16" which are cheap and readily available no need to fuss with aftermarket spacing/offsets; plus they will look correct on your car. Quite a few options even in 16" for the W211, but these are my favorites.

What do you think about 17" rims and a 245/45 tire? Would that be a big improvement in stomping potholes versus what I have now which are 18" with 245/40 tires?

You will see a huge improvement even with 17" wheels. I had 17s and 18s and the differences were noticeable.

Yes you will. Had and 04 w/ optional 17s & an 07 w/ optional 18's... The 17s give a softer, more forgiving ride. Buy OEM wheels from a wheel repair place such as:

or another wheel refinisher to save money.

My car came with 17's stock with 245/45/17. I used to get compliments on how amazingly soft the ride was, not so much anymore with 19s though.
