engine cover removal

I'm new e320 owner. I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to remove the plastic engine cover. I can get the small front piece off, but cannot figure out how to remove the larger rear piece. Thanks!

There are 4 rubber mounts that are covered with a strip of metal on all the sides (front & back). They are pressure fit into receptacles on the engine. Grab the front left and right sides and pull up. There is a lot of resistance but the cover will come up. Then pull up on the back.

I did this on both my E500 and my SL500. I went to the Mercedes e-learning site first and found a picture that hinted at what you have to do. I was still afraid that I was going to break the main cover but it works.

thanks. i tried following your instructions and pulled hard enough to where i thought i'd break something and still couldn't get the thing off. are the rubber mounts connected directly to the engine block. i just want to make sure i'm pulling at the right place. if you have a pic that would be great. if not, can you tell me which lesson you figured this out at from the mb e learning site? i'll go back and review that particular lesson. thanks.

Vtec26,

I just realized that your email talks about an E320. I've got the E500 so they may be different. Sorry for the confusion.

Here's the link where I saw the picture. You can see in 19 that the tech is lifting up on the front right and left sides. It took a lot of force for my cover to come off.

My cover fits into flanges that are attached to the engine block and other components. It's a very tight fit.
