Remotes not working ?? reciever issues

Hi, My E55 has keyless go. it works fine.
the key in the ignition also works fine.
but when i press the remotes, the remote light comes on but the car does nothing.
I replace the batteries on both remotes still the same.

Sometimes if i hold the remote right at the drivers door it works.

Is there are aerial for these ? or receiver ? How can I tell if it is getting the signal, or how can I check ?

As the keyless go all works, i can just press the buttons on the doors, but would be nice to press the boot/ trunk and have it work.

Thanks for any help.

I doubt that you or anyone else could diagnose the convenience feature without factory or equal diagnostic equipment--------there are about 12 sensors switches and actuators in that circuit/system----how would you test the system!!

In any event my guess is that the rear passenger ashtray is to full!!
