Serv Button not working

2008 CLS63 AMG, 1976 Stingray, 2007 Gallardo,
Serv Button not working
This is in a 2008. The serv button is not responding at all, nothing happens when pressed.
To further explain, this is after trying to enter the engineering menus (unsuccessfully) using a variety of methods documented here. Did I somehow lock myself out? Is this recoverable?

The wrench button? There was an update from the analog star assistance to MBrace at some point. Dealers used to update for free, but I don't think this is the case anymore.
