The sub is not bolted in. It's heavy enough, and it's carpeted, that it stays in place even in hard cornering. It's shape is such that it won't topple over easily. Since it's not bolted down, if I need to get to the spare tire, then I just disconnect the banana clip, and lift it out.

I had a 10" Alpine S10 sub in my BMW. The shop cut a whole behind the center rear arm rest and set the speaker behind some leather back there screwed down to the trunk. The sound was directed right into the cabin and it sounded really good. A 10 was almost too much for me. I always had it set to 1 of 18 because I didn't want to boom down the street but it would if I wanted it to. I also had the Kicker KX120.2 amp. I have the HK system in the benzy so I am going to put these on ebay. If any of you want to make an offer I would be happy to listen...

I thought it was just me but my HK sounds like a toy when given full bass and played at moderately loud( Highway) levels.

Dealer has replaced them once. He admits the HK speakers are not all that good.

Speakers in Rear rumble like they are blown. Went to the local audio custom guy and he was quoting close to $3k for amp, and whatever.

What did this setup cost if I may be so rude to ask?

My HK sounds really good and really impressed me and I have had it cranked a good bit. When you say that yours sounds like the rear's are blown out are you hearing any crackling? I am having trouble imagining what the rumbling sounds like...

$3K for a system is rediculous in my opinion. My set-up was around $750 installed but my family has done big business with this guys before so I was cut a little break. Also, I didn't replace all of the speakers, just added an amp and sub. What I found is that the speakers have trouble with the bass so if you add a sub and assign more of the bass to it your other speakers (via the amp) the speakers will behave better.

The rumbling sound is as if the speakers are loose in the mount. Only hear this on a bass intense song like Billy Idol "Catch My Fall" . Idol has a lot of bass in his arrangements.

Your system solution makes alot more sense. I am going to re-approach this shop with yours and some of the ideas posted here. I have since checked with other local sources and the shop is considered one of the best. I think maybe the guy (actually very young) was quoting a whole lot more than I need. Thanks for the advice.

Also, turn off the 7 logic.. Just put it in stereo.. 7 Logic is amazing for symphonies and such but for music with bass it isn't that great..

For me, I find the bass very crashing, even when I put it WAY down. There is a certain cutoff with the volume that crosses the line where it starts to crash. Almost sounds like farting. I don't think it is just mine, since I have played the same types of music in my friends E with the HK, and it sounds the same. I know it is way better than the previous generation E, but it pales in comparison to the stock system I had on my Lexus.
