Have you seen any problems with Airmatic DC system on 2003 E500 that would cause right side to be lower than normal when car is left parked? My car seems to slump lower on the right side after being parked for a while.

In addition, this E500 does not seem to have the distinct differences in Airmatic settings from Comfort to Sport I or II. My current E500 was built in July 2003. My first E500 was built a year earlier. I feel no difference in the ride now from Comnfort to Sport II. I do feel a more stability in cornering in Sport II.

Any input from you on the above will be appreciated.

What is "a while"? Over a certain amount of time (days, not hours) the car may lower a bit, but I do not know the values by heart.

You should feel difference between the different settings. Have you already visited your dealer for this (maybe you Americans will find this stupid or ridiculous, but overhere it is just normal that we help customers with such things). They can see if Airmatic adjustments are done (change of current to the suspension regulating valves,...) with the Star Diagnosis computer.

Your rear tires should be 265/35 ZR 18. Did you buy that car with those tires?

"A while"

"A while" in this case means a few hours in a parking lot. Perhaps about 2-3 hours. In that time the distance between the top of the right tires and the fender lip is one finger thickness different from same gap on left side of car. Approaching the car from the front, the lean to the right side is very apparent.

The 275/35-18" rear tires are Michelin Pilot Sport A/S. These were added after the purchase of the car. They replaced the ContiTouring Contact CH95 245/45-17" tires. The Pilot Sport A/S does not come in size 265/35-18". The OD of The Pilot Sport A/S is 25.8" compared to the Conti's OD of 25.7" and the Pilot Sport 265/35-18" at 25.3" OD.

On my original E500, built in 2002, the selector switch for Airmatic DC provided definet and recognizable differences from Comfort to, Sport I and Sport II. Some here said that they felt that Sport II was much to harsh. It was a harsh ride, but provided very distinct cornering stability at the psuh of a button. One could then easily return to Comfort mode and not have to worry about a harsh ride until the next swooping corner.

My new E500, built in July 2003, shows virtually no difference from Compfort to Sport I or II as far as ride goes. In fact to me the Comfort mode is not as Comfortable as the old Comfort mode. The ride quality in each of the trhee modes seems exactly the same. I do seem to feel some better cornering stability in Sport II mode in a hard turn.

Has M-B changed the program for the Airmatic DC system from 2002 to 2003, or is there something in my specific car that requires a good looking at? I have no error messages or faults displayed. Your comments will be appreciated.

Legacy,
I've also noticed a lean to the left, more so on the rear wheel. It is particularly noticable when parked on a slope with the parking brake engaged. I asked the dealer to look at my system and they reported no malfunctions. I continue to watch this and may ask about it again next time I have to take the car in for service.

i have noticed a lean to the right when parked in my garage. i have often wondered if this could cause a right drift that the dealer doesn't notice.

Right Lean

Good question regarding the drift to right. It is rather difficult to check the right lean while driving, however. Today with the lean apparent, I inserted my ignition key, turned to second position and no change occured. I pressed the raise button and the car went up, but the lean still was there. I lowered the car again and the lean was still there. I started the car and still lean remained. Whether it goes away when driving is hard to say. I must take it to the dealer and see if this lean has anything to do with the lack of difference in ride feel when switching from Comfort to Sport I or II.

I have noticed this lean to the right in my 98, 01 and 03 Es. I thought it was normal.
