2005 w211 starting issue

Have had my car for a month. I make deliveries as a courier, all over New England, NY and Jersey. A couple of days ago, when jumping back in car, turn key, nothing. So I remove key, and re-insert and try again. Vroooom! All set. Yesterday same thing. This time, took 3 tries, on two seperate occasions. Today, almost each time I stopped, it took two or three tries, but it finally always starts.

Instinctively, I shut off wipers, heat, and radio before each try. According to the service records I received from previous owner, aux battery replaced 2013, main 2010. I don't think the starter has been replaced. After starting I read the the screen to see if a malfunction is detected, but no notices appear.

My tech says he'll do some checking during upcoming service, but maybe next time it won't start at all. Would like to avoid a tow truck.

Once again these intermittent issues without a fault code---presents loads of issues with drivers and techs----and once again if you do not have the diagnostic equipment the diagnosis can be long expensive and in itself faulty logic.

If you are looking a guesses, mine are bad keys,or bad ingition module, or check the charging system----I would get the car checked before my next trip!!

Have it check by a shop that has star diagnostic equipment. Otherwise you may be wasting time and money. Guessing almost always cost more money than paying for a proper star diagnostic service.

The description is a little vague. When turning the key, does the car crank and doesn't start or does it just not crank? What's the voltage? You can get that display by switching to temperature before starting and hitting the reset button 3 times.

I was going to guess batteries in the fob, but I don't think it matters. If you have a 2nd key, try the 2nd key to rule out a bad key.

Thanx for all replies. No, it wouldn't crank at all. Then after a few tries would turn over robustly. Took it to a trusted shop, not sure if he uses Star Diagnostics, but his machines pointed to the starter immediately. It has never been changed, so I took his word and set up appt for next Sat. $215 (plus tax for re-manufactured) and I hr labor at $89.

Point to-----Oh HS---today you test the starting circuit---then you point---however on the off chance, make sure that if it's not the starter you want your good ole starter installed at no charge!!
