Glad to join the forum. I bought a E350 a month ago. I did the research and thanks to all of you I found out that my '08 was past the balance shaft issue. However, a few days ago the check engine light came on. The codes
are for cam and crank disagreement. Took to the dealer and they read same codes. They say the timing chain is stretched and needs replaced. Mercedes
document says this can occur on rare occasions. Any thoughts? Thanks.

How many miles and what are the actual codes?

Also some states offer 60 day warranties even on used cars so depending on the state and the laws, maybe it's covered. Did you ask if it's the camshaft or crankshaft position sensor?

The car was purchased at a Dealer that carries several brands, including Mercedes. It has 107K on it now, 105K when I bought it.
The codes are 1200 and 1208. Tech says timing chain needs replaced. Due to engine serial number the balance shaft should not be an issue. They cleared the codes and I've been driving it. Runs great and the check engine light has not returned. The SA says MBUSA would not be any help in this instance. Thanks

S-B-03.30/80j does note “In rare cases, a stretched timing chain might be the reason for the DTC fault codes (1200 & 1208) when the sprocket does not exhibit any signs of wear.” Given engine is past clean point, mileage, and vehicle was not purchased through MB dealer doubt MBUSA will offer goodwill assistance.

Vehicle was purchased a month ago, unlikely condition developed this quickly approach selling dealer to have chain replaced or at the very least offer goodwill assistance in doing so. Timing chain MSRP $300 ($180.99/free shipping https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/mer...ain-0009930676) + labor.
