I guess that in addition to special diagnostics hardware(for example MB Star diagnostics system) automobile repair shops use special programs or service/repair manuals to have a detailed understanding how to dismantle the car to access certain component(e.g. to replace the light bulb or sway bar), electronics schematics, part numbers, what and how much oil to use etc. Could somebody suggest such software? Is Autodata good for Mercedes cars? Where could one buy such repair/service manuals? Or is access to such materials somewhat restricted.. The reason I'm asking is that I would like to make the smaller and simple repair works myself and to have at least basic understanding how my car works and what it is made of

It's called WIS, you can find knock off of the DVD on ebay in the $20 range. An actual manual would be harder to find.

I actually bought the $20 disc's on ebay and let me tell you .... exactly like the factory program . I'm very impressed with it and it does cover almost every repair . Not a bad investment at all

this would explain why i see so few DIYs floating around for the w211. i've been looking around for days for videos or pictorials but they seem to be rare......i guess this is why, they're all on those CDs so nobody bothers to make diy guides!

It all depends on the forum and section there's quite a bit diy guides in the 220 section
