2005 E500
Trunk Hinge/Arm

I have a 2005 E500. Yesterday I pushed my soft close button on the trunk lid and the trunk started to close but couldn't make it all the way down. I pushed it down the rest of the way and it latched. Today, I opened the trunk and tried to close it with the same result, but could hear 'spring' noises coming from left side. When I tried to shut it manually, it wouldn't close because something was jamming. I pulled all the trunk covering out and saw that the metal piece that the auto close motor attaches to had broken off of the actual trunk arm. Has anyone ever ran into this. I can get a new arm but I am wondering if something with the motor caused this to happen...or just repeated opening and closing just wore at the welds??? Seems weird. Is the hinge/arm easy to replace? Any insight is appreciated.
