Exclamation 2004 Mercedes E320(W211) Trunk Failure

My third tail-light still works and the emergency release button as well, however, the close button no-longer lights up. Nor does it close the trunk any more. the button on the inside of the car on the door lights up, and when you pull it, the trunk makes the sound as if it wants to close but, nothing happens. I have to open it manually with the mechanical key. and it doesn't even open all the way, it just pops up and doesn't stay up. so I have to be care or else I might get knocked out!!! My other problem is that one of my keys only works to turn the car on and/or activate the panic alarm while the other one has mysteriously gotten un-registered from the car's key list and seems to be the only key that actually works!

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

sure, when we got the car, it came with 2 keys. later in the years, they both stopped working. We, then replaced the batteries, getting it wrong the first time. We thought that fixed it but, a few weeks later, the second key failed to be recognized by the car, even though it still works. the first key, however, still allows you to turn on the car(and also start the alarm, when pressed) but the lock and unlock buttons don't do anything. Neither does the trunk button(on the key)

You probably have a faulty alarm siren. You need you some "SDS" in your life!

My recent problem may be manifest itself differently in your car . . . both the key fob and the release on the left front door would open the trunk, but not the trunk handle itself. Dealer expected to replace the handle that would be it. Wrong. Turned out the problem was corroded wiring leading into the handle. Well, apparently actually a switch, not a handle as we know it. Remove, repair and reinstall wiring harness. $700. But it works. BTW, Dole light always worked.

OK. Let me try rephrasing this again. the only thing that key one does is turn on the alarm when you press the panic button and turn on the car. key two looks broken but seemingly works perfectly, the only problem with it; the car no longer recognizes it. when you go to the ENGINEERING MODE menu in the COMAND navigation system and look at the registered keys, key 2 is gone and I don't know why

for me its a key malfunction as well as an electronic trunk opener/closer (or trunk assist) problem

your explaining and typing is confusing and its really hard to decipher what either key is doing. it seems to me you may have one or all of the following... bad key, faulty trunk latch, eis issue, or central locking issue. if you have enough money to pay for 1hr checkout fee take it to a dealer. tell them your complaints, decline the work, pay your 1.0 hr c\o fee and go from there....

also check to see if anything in your trunk is wet, there is a LI about the trunk seals on w211's leaking, causing water damage in wiring harness ect...

it funny you should mention that because when ever I'm at the store and it rains the trunk lid does get filled with water and I am trying to fix these problems as cheaply as possible

tisk tisk... wouldnt be surprised if something is shorted. theres a cover over a wire loom on your trunk hinges, left one to be exact.... trace the wires in the loom to your rear sam, left rear trunk area behind trunk lining.... bet you there's a broken wire or damaged wires... thats 700$ in a post above sounds about right. wiring repairs pay well. Typically little cost in parts and more cost in labor.
