e550 problems

hi guys, im posting for my brother in law but its his car i'm trying to fix.

i've been a toyota tech for 10 years so i do have experience in the automotive field mostly in Jap cars and some domestic but not too much in euros.
with that said, he just purchased a e550 and it was having traction control problems. it would be fine until he moves the car, then the ESP light would come on and the button will not turn it off. only way to turn it off is to turn the car off and back on but as soon as the car moves it will come back on.

he had the codes scanned but i've never seen codes like these (not P codes).

7226 DTR distronic consequential fault

47D4 CAN signal "outside air temp" from Cont. unit A1 (instrument cluster) is implausible.

4751 No CAN message was received from control unit Transmission control module

4759 No CAN message was received from control unit Engine control module

7284 check codings in control module N93 (centtral gateway control unit)

4D70 one or more signals sent from control unit N80 (steering column module) via the CAN bus is implausible

i've been searching all over but cant seem to find anything. any help would be greatly appreciated.

thank you

Thank you for the reply.
Yes all current codes. All comm. Issues but looks like it's with multiple systems, is there a common link?
Thanks again.

Do you have access to star? I'd process the fault codes and go from there. Check coding on cgw is something i would lean towards first. CGW's do go bad in these 211's at times.

No I don't have access to STAR. I've been reading on the cgw problems and that might do it. I've also read that the brake light switch can cause the light to come on....but that doesn't explain the other codes.
Is there something the STAR tester does that a Matco tester? I'm sure there a lot but maybe for those specific issue the matco tester can do it.
Also, if I replace that computer do I need to be able to program it?

Thanks again for all your help

If that stop lamp switch is faulty, which if it was i would assume there would be a fault code but its possible for one to not show up, then yes your esp module thinks your brakes are engaged at all times but your driving 65 on the freeway. Buy a stop lamp switch, install it, if codes still come back return it!

sounds good. i'll take a crack at that.

he also just mentioned to me that the rear wheels collect brake dust extremely fast. i also noticed this, his front wheels would be clean and free of brake dust but the rears would look like they havent been washed in years...completely black. i doubt its normal but i also double he has 2 bad calipers. do you think theres any connection with the 2?

Negative, my 550 2wd does thee same exact thing. Your rear rotors are more then likely warped. I know for sure mine are, I can feel it when i apply the brakes!

Think about it, you have a flat pad. A round disc. If the disc is uneven or "out of round" your pad will make contact with the disc at times it doesn't need to. Warped=out of round. Bet you if you put a dial indicator on your hub and measure run out it will be super excessive.

Unless you got some aftermarket pads or rotors that could be causing it as well.
And its also possible one of your calipers could be sticking or both of them but the only way to tell that would be to find the min/max spec of rotor thickness, measure accordingly and measure run out of the rotor and brake lining thickness.
