Removal of rear window pillar trim

Hi guys,

Just bought an 09 E350 and had the trunk wiring repaired by the dealer I bought the car from. I noticed today the interior rear window pillar trim on both sides is loose. Been around cars long enough I know if I pull in the wrong places it's very easy to break the clips. How is the rear window pillar trim affixed? Can I pull the trim straight off?

Thanks!!

I have done this repair (with help from konigstiger). Same issue, essentially. My recollection is that the sheet metal nut slides/clips onto the pillar trim. Maybe yours has just come loose. In my case, the plastic on the trim where the nut went was actually broken, so no good just trying to replace the nut. I had to replace the pillar as well. Not a hard job if that is the case with you. Do be aware that you have to undo/redo the seat belt to do that, so have the appropriate torx bit available.

Just FYI-

Great post guys! I was able to re-connect my trim thanks to the great pics and information here....looks like when the guys fixed my inoperative trunk prior to purchase they had no idea how to re-install the trim piece into the retaining nut in the middle of the trim piece and instead used double sided tape. Luckily they didn't loose the nuts to after a bit of work I was able to get the trim back into its factory position.

None thank God.... When I did the PPI I caught the dysfunctional trunk so it was conditional upon repair....the dealer bought it direct from MB Canada so aside for their sloppy oil changes down the front of my engine it's pretty mint. I've now gone thru every square inch of it and I am pretty satisfied
