Setting a destination and following the map with the radio on, every now and then the music pauses, there's silence, then the music resumes.

Did my nav system give me directions or mention a turn, because there's nothing to hear! I'm assuming voice directions, but there's not.

Is there a menu where I need to kick her up a few notches?

Meanwhile, I'll RTFM.

you can adjust the Nav volume WHILE the nav is talking/giving directions. never heard of total silence before but. press the "ear" button to make the nav talk then adjust the volume up.
