W211 facelift - when do Airmatic struts need to be replaced ?
Hi guys,
We own a 2004 CL 65 AMG (C215) since 2008 and a 2007 E500 facelift (I guess it's called E550 for the US market) since 2014.
The E500 (as the CL 65 ) is a really WONDERFUL car
So comfortable, plenty of power, not too flashy, and pretty rare (well at least in Europe).
The car currently has 60 000 miles and has been completely flawless and bullet-proof since we bought it.
I just wanted to know for those who own pretty high mileage W211 facelift, when did you replace the Airmatic suspension struts ? In fact, I would like to see the average of mileage when they should need to be replaced. A bit anticipating...
Thanks for your answers
Cheers

I'll throw out an answer though your request is for 2007 E550...
I purchased mine (2006 E500) at about 80k miles, and the front struts had been replaced already. Job one for me was replacing the rear. I stuck a set of Arnotts on the rear with great results at 82,000 or so. Indy did the rear without even lifting the car. Of course he also worked under the car on a jack without blocking anything and got a grease mark on the carpet that I had to remove, but he surely didn't have to remove the suspension, exhaust, or much else. Well worth the trouble and happy with the result.

Thank you very much for your reply
Yes, I know for sure that on facelift W211, Airmatic struts are supposed to last longer than pre-facelift ones.
Time will tell. At this moment, no sign of any problem.

I am knocking on my wooden table here as I say this but I got my 04 Wagon with 35K miles and the suspension hadn't been changed yet. The car was rear ended at around 50K miles which required the rear air springs and rear air shocks be replaced. The fronts, however haven't ben replaced. I've replaced lower ball joints, upper A-arms, tie-rod ends and bushings for the front suspension at 100K miles. I am now at 110K miles and still going strong.
