Well, she's gone.

My wife called shortly after 8am Monday. She's wrecked the E550.

Pulled in to traffic after someone else waved her on, and a car coming from the right took off the front.

What do you think, kids? Totaled?

damn, that sux! sorry for your loss

AMGAffalterbach 08-23-2015 02:47 AM

I'm sorry to hear that! Hope you find your way into another Mercedes, and glad she's ok. It's hard to tell if it's totaled from just those pictures, but my guess will be yes if there's any engine or frame damage.

I would guess totaled as well, but what a "clean" front impact. No real damage to the hood or driver front quarter panel. Looks like a future salvage titled vehicle

totaled. and i wouldnt take anything less. i dont want the same car repaired. sorry to see what happened but glad to know your wife is safe. its a car and can be replaced by the same or a better one any time.

in a situation like this, does the insurance company get the totaled car? or do you get to keep it since it's 'yours'? are you obligated to give it to them? or can you sell off parts?

Honcho 08-24-2015 07:23 PM

Looks pretty close to this: https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...portunity.html

....which the insurance totaled.

:(

the insurance pays the agreed value or the book value. they get to keep the car but. although others will let you get away with some parts like wheels, hu and the like.

Man, its like the front got sheared clean off. That sucks. Hope the wife is OK and insurance takes good care of you.

Well, she's gone.

The car is replaceable, glad your wife is ok!

My guess if the frame didn't twist it is repairable. Most of the front clip is sacrificial in a collision to protect the occupant. I think the Insurance will go for repair.

I'll bet you could cut the wires to the bumper and drive it home.

Its probably not drivable with all that fluid that leaked out in the front, probably has a busted radiator, damaged condenser, etc.

 washer fluid? Spilled is drink after looking at it?

I still think the INS won't total.

Just an off the cuff note..I've heard of these wave outs as sometimes an insurance scam..accident setup..be careful (lawsuit)
