Does you dealer provide pickup and delivery service?

I'm planning to buy a new E class in tri-state area and a friend recommended a particular dealer because they pick up and deliver his car whenever it needs to go in for warranty service or scheduled maintenance.

Sounds good considering all the things that may require work but this dealer is not willing to provide any discount on the vehicle.

My question: is this level of service unique among dealers or do
others offer it? The two other local ones I checked do not.
And is it worth paying a premium (meaning msrp) to obtain this
level of service?

most mb dealers probably wont do it. the dealer we went to really helped us out one time on our prenav car, because one morning the alarm went off by itself, and after we shut it off, a horrible beeeeep started, and couldnt stop, we called roadside assistance, and even after unplugging the battery, it didnt work. then the dealer sent two cars to our house, and we got one, and the two guys left in one while the roadside guy took our car to the dealership. we were very thankful, but im sure most dealers wont do this, especially in day time where they are tied up, this was at 7 am i believe. Of the two in my market, one does provide pickup and delivery (along with loaners and a convenient shuttle both to work places and during mid-day hours to shopping centers or restaurants). The other lets you rent a car unless it's a specific warranty repair, and then you must wait on setting your appointment for a free loaner to be available. There is no place to walk to for any diversion from the service appointment if you are stuck waiting for the car.

There are a host of other conveniences and treatment that follow the same pattern. One is customer focused with a single location while the other is one of several stores owned by the same company and they run more ads.

Having purchased and had service from both, my suggestion is you might ask other customers about the value of the broader experience rather than just focus on the valet service. There may be far more differences than just pick up and delivery. It's worth more to me to deal with the more customer-focused of the two. As a result my expectations are always met or exceeded--right down to your car being brought around to you and getting 2 York peppermint patties along with your paperwork. That never happended at the other store.

I am also in Tri-State area and have over 6 dealers (that I am aware of) within 50 miles radius.

The dealer (actually the farthest one) I am working right now on my new E-Class, provides valet car pickup for service/maintenance/repairs so you call them up, they bring you a loaner car and take yours - and you never left without wheels (which is very cool).

Besides that the price (regardless of the model I choose) is a few hundred over dealer's invoice (I don't deal with MSRPs).

PM me if you are in Northern Jersey vicinity.

Even if they provide this service, I'm not sure you really want it. Our local Jaguar dealer provides this service, but they scraped my two right wheels on the second time they did pick-up/delivery. They reluctantly had the the wheels refinished, but ever since then, I've been taking the car in myself and driving off with a loaner.

That's a good point...

But on the other hand you should stay away from any valet parking services (hotels, casinos, etc.)

I've had Lexus, BMW and now Mercedes and all my dealers have offered free valet pick-up for any WARRANTY service. Plus be sure when you buy the car you get it in the contract that any vehicles you may need during warranty repairs will be Mercedes vehicles. (preferrably the same model)

You may notice the key word is warranty....only with warranty repairs.

The service is nice but money talks. If you can negotiate a substantial discount from any dealer, take the deal to your guy and ask him to match it. Odds are he will unless his inventory's tight.

Didn't work for me though....paid full MSRP

One other point about dealer valets. Most luxury dealers are very carefull about who they have drive the cars. Most of the time it's retired gentlemen who do it more for the pleasure of driving the cars than for the money. I've never had a twenty somthing kid pick up one of my babies.

I think it all depends on the service dept at your dealership. I did not buy the car from the local dealership, but when the service did not do their job right at the local dealership, the service advisor told me not to worry and sent one of the sales guys to deliver my car back to my office, and he took back the loaner.

They also give me a loaner as long as the service appointment was made 1 day in advance. I must say my local dealer service dept really treats the customer well, but I would give that up if they actually could fix the car properly when I take it in...
