Paint

What would be a nice and cool way to paint my Silver 2003 E320?
Even if it's just the roof and stuff like that

It is almost impossible to match MB paint quality, but if yours show bad, anything will be better.
MB USA is selling spray cans with what suppose to be original color.
It is not matching my silver, but if you paint whole panel, the difference will be not noticeable.
You will need like 3-4 can for the roof.
Don't know how much practice you have, but good painting job is 70% in preparation.

Most body shops can match paint. It requires skill, but can be done, contrary to other belief. I sprayed my CDI when my wife got into an accident. I have a black opal car. If you just want a color change on the roof...check into Plasti-dip or wrapping services. They have both come a LONG way in the past 10 years.

silver is the hardest color to match perfectly. id rather dip the roof or wrap it to give it a pano look.

Would it looks nice if I plasti dip matte black the roof ?
And would I be able to do it myself?😄
Here is a photo of my car right now
Please give some good ideas to do with plasti dip.

You can do it one of two ways...by can (cheap and not the best) or by spray gun. I would use the spray gun. Few reasons why, but mainly because it lays flatter and smoother. Additionally, you can clear coat it (with Plastidip clear) and with about 6 coats it will look like paint. I have had my grill plastidipped for about 2 years...no recoating and it's fine. I run it through car washes sometimes - which is a no no.

Diego, never tried dipping before but seems fairly easy and reversible if you mess up. wrapped my roof before, easy but not a one man job. also, not sure how it would look after you peel the wrap as ive traded my car with the wrap still on.

@boardboy, I agree with you with the better quality from a spray gun compared to a rattler. how easy or complicated is it to use an electric spray gun? (paint mixing, nozzle set up, air/paint ratio and what not or is it a simple 50/50 mix, pour and spray?) what brand and model do you recommend for a beginner to use with plasti dip? cheers!

While spray gun can can give you better job, there is more to buy and higher risk on it.
You do nice job and on last pass you find out you had water in air hose....
There is no "One size fits all"
Rattle cans of today are really good. I am buying 98 cents spray cans at Home Depot and it does really good job on my pickup bed and appliances. Takes about 6 coats to cover different color, but than if you mess up one coat, it will not show to bare eye.

^i think there are a lot of people using airless spray guns with plasti dip with good results. im with you on the spray can since ive used em more than i can remember. but ive seen videos of car roofs sprayed with can and electric gun, the guns results was so much better.

same as OP, i wanted to paint my roof as well but still undecided which route to take.

I would say get the roof wrapped - easy and it looks good.

I do wraps, IMO (professionally and otherwise) a wrap is a better choice. Not sure about the water in the line remark - if you're painting, with the skills I discussed before, you would have an air dryer and not have air in your line. Either way..we are discussing plasti dip which uses an electric gun, no water in the line.
