Thank you very much indeed for taking the time to post a very informative reply.

Over here we just have a recommended retail price, and then it is down to the individual to try and get the best possible deal. The problem usually is trading in your own vehicle, I for one certainly would not fancy trying to sell a two, or three year old vehicle to a private buyer. (not unless it was a straight forward cash transaction)

Thanks again,
John

John,
The goal is to keep a car for 10, 15, 20 years so that you don't have a problem finding a guy with the cash.

Of course there is that saying that if you buy a Mercedes, either get rid of it in three years or drive it into the ground. I like the first idea but my wife likes the second Unfortunately, we've never found a Mercedes we could drive into the ground so we have no excuse for a new car.

I've got two choices...either stop maintaining our present car with tender loving care so it starts causing problems or convince my wife that the best way to take a European vacation is with a nice new E320 CDI.

Thank you everybody for both the links and the replies.

Good luck in trying to persuade your wife to go on a European trip

Regards,
John
