New COMAND Software
Wanted to let everyone know, I got the latest COMAND software update (to resolve the audio static problem). Since then, the static issue has yet to occur. There are also some minor software changes:
1. NAV now shows pertinent info at bar at top of screen, such as highway number, eixt numebr on green bar, etc.
2. Words "Direction of Travel" are now present in dashboard info cluster for nav mode
3. Phone list does not scroll around in info cluster, you get to end and must go back in other direction.
Some other minor changes, nothing really earth shattering

Good news. It's about time they added some features to the nav. My wife's ML has more info on her nav than ours.
Did you notice if it also tells you distance and time to destination?

pat a. latest COMAND software update
I assume your E500 is a 2003 model. Is this correct?
Do you know the revision number or any other way to identify the software change they installed so I can have the same done to my car?
Thanks.

Olso,
I don't see anything on the DVD case but the DVD itself is labeled 2004.1. Do you think this could be the version number?

NavUp Subscription
I took the plunge and called 1-866-MB-4-AMAP (624-2627), the number listed on MBUSA's website for the NavUP program.
My existing DVD is labeled "2003-1". I was told that the first new DVD I will receive is the one issued in September 2003, which is "2004.1". The next one I get will be in September 2004 and will be "2004.2". In September 2005, or thereabout, I will receive my third DVD which will be "2005.x", I suppose.
I am very interested to see what difference there will be. On MBUSA's sales pitch on their website they claim that 15 - 20% of data is changed every year.
Anyway, that is what I know about it.

This may fall under the category of dumb questions... Does the DVD contain the software for COMAND too. Although I haven't tried it but my guess would be that COMAND (except Nav) will continue to function even when the DVD is not inserted. Essentially the point I'm getting to is that how is the COMAND software updated to get rid of static. Is it by replacing the DVD or by updating the COMAND software through some other means.
Thanks,

rksharma, a different method exists to update the actual electonics, or flash the firmware, and has to be perfomed by the dealer. From what I understand, it is a simple process of inserting a CD in a special device that plugs in to the car somwehre. And it is my understanding that the dealer should update it at every service.
