2006 model

The manufacturing process probably starts in Jun-Jul to ensure an adequate supply is ready for distribution for the new model year Sep-Oct release (production date). You can use epc to get the date of your car if the data isn't readable from the plate located inside the driver side door.

Thanks for the replies. I was checking on a vehicle with a build date of 4/05 on the driver's door tag which was a 2005 model year. On an another vehicle with a build date on the door tag of 5/05, this car was a 2006 model year. that was the purpose of my question. I guess the 2006 models started in May of 2005.

MB is known for doing gimmicks with models.
For example 1995 E class is W210 body in Europe, but W124 body in US.
2003 E sedan in US is W211, but wagon is W210
Not that really matters when you drive it.
Our 12 years old MB was taken for relatively new car.
The 25 yo was given 8-10 years.

Yes, I believe in 2003 it was a new body style for the sedan, but they didn't get around to updating the station wagon so if you look at the 2003 station wagon, it's the old body style hence the W210 body.
As for the month it starts, I think it depends on the model year. I've seen 2007, 2008 and 2009 models start in July, not sure if there were any in June, but I don't recall ever seeing one in May. Because 2006 was a slight refresh with the new engine, I could see it starting earlier.

theres always a year of overlap in release dates especially in Europe and here in Australia as new models normally come out here between july-sept prior to actual year launch.
so there will be a 1995 W214 but theres also a 1995 W210 but different body style. same as with 2002 W210 and 2002 W211, 2009 W211 and 2009 W212 and so on...
this got me scratching my head...
"For example 1995 E class is W210 body in Europe, but W124 body in US.

poster made it sound like their same cars but different designation depending on the country.
W211 first came out 2002 and S211 (estate/wagon) came out a year after. so obviously there will still be a 2003 S210 until the release of 2003(4) S211.
