E350 Tires

Merry Christmas everyone,
I brought a nice E350 with sports package that has staggered tires. Love the car, it's loaded, but I have had to replace the tires after a year of owning the car and 11 months later the rear need replacing again. Used a mid-range tire (Falken) last time i changed the tires and had an an alignment done also. The tires are wearing on the inside of the tires. Is this normal for the sports package or is there an a adjustment or repair that need to be done before I buy new tires.

Mercedes did not make 350 in 1997 per my knowledge, but regardless the first tire looks like cut by a bolt or suspension member.

This a 2008 E350, the pic shows the inside and the outside of the same tire. The wear is noticeably more on the inside than on the outside. Wondering if this is normal or not for this car.

Do you have the alignment sheet? I would check as I bet it is out of spec.

Tire with wear out edges on both sides is a tire that was driven badly under-inflated.
Still to have side wear like that would take camber bigger than on this car
Are you sure the tire was not touching fenders?

are those brand new falkens after 11 mos of use? how do you drive and how much do you drive your car? that looks more of a C63 tyre after tracking it.

I had a 2007 E350 with the staggered tire set up. Alignments need to be done by a Mercedes dealer or an specialty indie shop that has the proper equipment to align a Mercedes. Also, from my experience a Michelin, Goodyear or Bridgestone brand of high performance tire works best on this car.

You need proper alignment. For that machine has to be regularly calibrated and guy has to be smart. Just like any other car alignment. Unfortunately not easy to find these days.

Driving a tire like that is extremely dangerous. It already started to delaminate. You should be much more careful.

I concur with everyone you need an alignment as soon as possible camber is out of spec. Are you running the original manufacture Rim and Tire setup? If yes I would speculate that the prior owner was running a different setup and adjusted the alignment to accommodate, and sold the car with the original tire and wheels setup and didn't change the alignment, just a guess... Good Luck!

11 Months of driving...Where on the Moon!! Take it to your dealer, of Indy!! Upgrade on some decent rubber. Not at your local pep boys, or corner tire shop that sell sub sandwiches, and shrimp!!

Usual mistake is to blame camber. It is actually toe angle. In this case probably combined with under inflation.

Another correction: alignment doesn't change if you change wheels and tires.

KEEP IN MIND THERE IS ONLY FRONT AND REAR TOE ADJUSTMENT OEM!

CAMBER – Allows to actually change the tire contact angle, resolving costly, premature edge tire wear/ improving traction and understeer or oversteer.

CASTER –Resolves steering pull, increases steering response. With better turn in and high speed directional control, along with improved anti dive/lift under brake and acceleration.

AT K-MAC WE SAW THE NEED TO DESIGN, MANUFACTURE AND REINSTATE FROM THE EARLY 90’S PRECISELY ADJUSTABLE (SINGLE WRENCH, ON CAR) FRONT CAMBER AND CASTER AND REAR CAMBER (WITH EXTRA TOE) ADJUSTABLE BUSHING KITS.

Allowing to return vehicle to factory specs to accurately resolve steering pull or costly premature edge tire wear. The result of altering height, load carrying, curb knock damage or fitting wide profile/wheels. Added bonus is these 4 front and rear K-MAC adjustable bushings also replace the highest wearing suspension bushings at the same time and have twice the load bearing area. The front bushes are 2 axis self aligning and are designed to also improve brake and steering response.

FOR THE FRONT (ONLY) - there are available offset Camber bolts. But these are inaccurate (one only position) bolts offering a minimal .3 of one degree (1/8”/ 3mm) and require labour intensive disassembly each time. While the K-MAC unique patented design provides precise/ongoing adjustment – on car, accurately (under load) direct on alignment rack.

For the W211 they provide up to 4 times the adjustment range of these one only position offset bolts.

IT MEANS YOU FIX IT RIGHT THE 1ST TIME - no more ongoing visits to dealers or alignment shops or constantly changing tire brands because of lack of full/precise adjustment capability.

FOR THE REAR –you can purchase adjustable Camber rods but these are difficult to access and to reduce inner edge tire wear unlike K-MAC lower arm bushings – these rods need to adjust top of tire outwards which reduces all important clearance to outer fender. With K-MAC kits they also include extra Toe adjustment which is essential to compensate for this new rear Camber facility!

W211 K-MAC Front Camber and Caster kit #502216K $480

W211 K-MAC Rear Camber (and extra Toe) #502526K $480

Current promotion for MB World members USA/Canada delivery - $30 one kit or $40 front and rear.
