Question W211 question from W209er

Does the 211 have a specific tire recomendation on the inside of the fuel filler door in small print? Although my car came with Pirelli's it says "use only Michelin". This was also the case with another CLK500 owner on the forum... I wonder why this is Curious if 211's have the same warning (look closely its in smaller print).
Thanks

I would think MB felt this tire gave best performance at the time.... I think the key word here is "recommended".... So I would run the tires I would like too.

Did you check the small print? How about on your sl 500?

Thanks

I checked every size print on the E500 and on the SL500. There's nothing like that on either fuel door.

Thanks for double checking and checking the SL.

I wonder why this is written on CLK 500's filler door? I checked mine again and the word Michelin is actually bolded

I don't know but I do prefer Michelins to the Contis they put on the E500s.

Thats interesting. The SL55 says USE PIRELLI TIRES ONLY (at least the 2003s) on the door jam.

I have a 209.
When I got my flat tire(i know i could have replaced them myself but it was freezing out at night and i wasnt in the mood to change the tires) I called MB for roadside assistance, they asked me what kind of tires I had. I said I have pirellis p-zero rossos and they said why do you have those? You should have the michelins. They said the p zero rossos is available on the CLK55amg.

The plot thickens. Maybe your car came with Michelin's and the dealer took them off and swithed them for another customer's car; that's what I they did for me.

I just looked at the blue and white build card that comes from MB with our cars and mine is stamped Pirelli next to #11 Reifen vorn 1, on the card(2 WARTUNGSHEFT?).

Does anyone know what the other 31 seperate three digit numbers are for on the bottom of the card. I see the paint code 040 is on the card in the upper right and know I've got the following options: 835 stone leather(not listed on the card), 819 factory cd changer, 889 keyless go, 319 lighting package (not listed), 324 sunroof package (also not listed).

The numbers are as follows:

232 249 254 264 265 293 301 309 349 414 461 494 524 531 549 551 573 589 600 614 634 636 668 690 731 763 767 772 804 810 819 875 889 954 986 989 NC1

RJC, that SL55 has pirelli pzero rosso tires. The only 2 that I have seen upclose and personal both had that statement on there and both had pirelli tires. Needless to say he now has 19 inch brabus monoblock 6 wheels with michelin pilot sports, hehe.

how weird. wonder why MB specifies certain tires for some models while others get whatever. Maybe the MB coupes only get one type of tire?
