what is this sound"with video"
Can this be the oil pump chain,or the harmonic balancer??
i will change the harmonic ballancer in some days, i am just waiting for some tools.i have tryed to remove the belt, and the sound is still there.
i have changed the chain tensioner.
what do i have to remove for checking the if the chain has streched?
The idle fluktuates,as seen in the end of the video, i am sure that has something to do with the sound.
when the car idles high"cold start",the sound is not there, but when it revs down, the ticking/knocking sound is there.and it goes away after a while
If the harmonic balancer is bad, can it cause this sound?
its a w211 220cdi 2008,with 434,000km
The belt is new, the waterpump is new,the idler wheels are new.the alternator is overhaled
I do all the work myself, cause it cost to much to go to the dealer..

Bad idler pulley is one thing. Purchase a mechanics stethoscope and then you can find where the noise is coming from.

Now i have changed the inlet manifoild, the old manifoild was full of debris, and the swirl flaps, could not move, the swirl flaps vacuum pump was not working,it was leak.
Now the car is much better&faster, but i still have the ticking sound, when i changed the harmonic balancer, all the start up sound went away, only the ticking is left, that i think is the oil chain.
I will try a cold start tomorrow and see it the erratic idle is gone."i hope so"
it it any here that have changed the oil chain on a 220cdi engine??
cause that will be my next blind shoot to get the ticking sound away
btw:one of the inlet manifoild bolts where gone..so the old manifoild was a little leak also
Thanks for all reply i have got in this post.
