headlight wires
The headlights wires insulation are gone in most parts of the wires. Can I replace the wires without removing the assembly? I am not getting a blown bulb but I have a battery draw and the fuse 64 has 1.8 amps draw.

fuse 64 is your interior light switch fuse.... I would unplug the switch and see if the current draw drops to spec (.030-.060milli amps). the w211 usually has a higher current draw then other models for whatever the reason. Especially the older ones.

As an alternative to replacing the wires on which the insulation has disappeared, you might try painting them with liquid electrical tape: Liquid Tape is the name-brand I've used for similar repairs. Works. Available at auto parts stores, Home Depot, Lowe's, etc.

I just opened up my headlights and found the same problem in the wiring inside the housings - much of the insulation had cracked & flaked off. I just wrapped them in electrical tape.
