2007 E350 Electrical Issues- COMMAND

Hey there,

So one day as I was loading my trunk, I closed it and when I went to reopen it with the key fab, it would not open. Using the button inside did not work either. I thought maybe something was stuck in the latch, but was able to open the trunk with the manual key slot. My car now notifies me that my license plate bulbs do not work (they don't) and my third brake light does not work (it does). I then checked fuses and from what I could tell (i'm not a car expert), they were all fine. It appeared as though 11 & 12 were the ones associated with the trunk. I had done some research and found that there have been people with issues like this and found a problem where the trunk actually cuts the wiring. If you have any expertise in this, please let me know.

However, the main reason I am writing is because after checking the fuses, my COMMAND unit stopped working. It was working prior to touching the fuse unit, but then it started just coming up with the emblem and shutting off. Now nothing happens. If you know anything to help, that would be great. Listening to my phone in the cupholder is getting a tad old.

Thanks,
D

There's another thread with pictures about the wiring in the trunk. A very common fault and can be fixed as a DIY. You basically look for the zip tie, that's the one that usually cuts the wire and it appears it tends to cut the ground wire and those 3 items seem to use the same ground wire. I bet the lights in your trunk don't light up either.

There's a separate troubleshooting thread for the comand, there's many possibilities for why it's bad. Any one item in the fiber optic loop could be bad including the comand. Trouble shooting could involve getting the bypass loop and bypassing each item although it may take a while to check each item. Or you could take it to the dealer and have them scan it and see what it is, the diagnostic charge might be high though which is why some people just do the fiber optic bypass loop, those are only a few dollars.
