Cup Holders
As an option you only get the one. (very smart though it is) Should there be two?
How did we get on beforecup holders were invented?
I suppose I am getting desperate for fresh input so please forgive me for this startlingly controversial thread.
Regards to you all,

Should 'Cup Holders' be a standard fitment, or an option?

I had the same thoughts as you. However, the "hole" that is left when you unfold the cup holder is apparently the other cup holder. Don't ask...just try!
Am I missing something ? I have one inthe front that flips out with the second and two in the rear that slide out of the rear seat middle arm-rest. Are we talking about the same thing ?
Marksatex, it's the front ones we're talking about.

You mean some folks pay extra? Std equip on my 03 and 04. What do you get if you do not select that option ? just the one- or does the compartment not open ?
We just have the little stowage space with the lid in situ' of course.
It is always interesting to hear what equipment comes as standard on vehicles in different countries.
Thanks for your input.

Of course lugbolts are optional in some service departments here.....

They could have left the cup holders out as far as I'm concerned. I haven't used the thing yet. I put food in the trunk of my car and drive somewhere to eat it. Tell me you don't really eat in your car!!!lol
I'm afraid I cannot get any seats into my trunk and without them it would be most uncomfortable

Making cupholders standard in the US and optional in the UK must reflect cultural differences between the two countries, either real or as perceived by M-B. I don't know how long US M-Bs have had cupholders, but my (now deceased, boo-hoo) '97 BMW 528i was the first US BMW to have cupholders, and they were barely functional as such. I can only imagine the ill-concealed contempt that German engineers must have for the tendency of US drivers to - ach! mein Gott! - eat and drink while engaged in the serious business of driving.
Very good. I suppose we will have to use our electronic folding mirrors to trap our cups of 'Earl Grey' Tea
