Vin check please and thoughts on 2006 e350

I am looking at a 2006 e350 that has accident damage along the passenger side. It doesn't look too bad, but owner said car was totaled out. Title appears normal, but I don't know what the totaled out means for me if I buy it and try to register.

Would someone with the ability to check a VIN please help me check: WDBUF87J76X188611

Also, I've read the balancer on the cam shaft goes bad on these, would MB be able to tell me if it was replaced? It had 130k on it so thinking it would have gone bad by now. Any other issues to check for on this model?

Thanks in advance.

You can use:

http://www.vindecoderz.com/EN/Mercedes-Benz

It's your basic black E350. Seems like it just has the P1 package and no other options.

MB can only tell you if it was replaced if it was done in their dealership. There are stories of them going bad on people who have 100k plus on them. That's why some people sell them. I wouldn't bother with a salvage vehicle. 2006 is the worst year, you should get a 2007+ that's past the balance shaft issue. There's an extended warranty on the gas tank for 15 years, unlimited miles, but the dealer doesn't have to honor it if it's a salvage vehicle. You can also have SBC (brakes) issues on the 2006, those went away in 2007.

quick question. Does the list of failed parts at the bottom of the vehicle info mean that is all that has been replaced?
WDBUF70J43A310943, i typed it in and it popped up but its saying all the work done is all in different states from the bronx ny to california. Just want to make sure im reading it right.

That stuff doesn't mean anything. Those are just from the first 11 digits of the vin, there's 17 and the last 6 uniquely identify the vehicle. Those are probably some of the problems that could have affected a million other possible cars that started with a similar vin pattern.

You would have to get the VMI from the dealer to find out the repairs done to the car at the MB dealer. I also wouldn't get a 2003, that's probably the worst model in the W211 lineup aside from the balance shaft/engine problems of the 2006. That particular one also has almost no options, basically a stripper base model.

I would NOT buy a 2006, nor would I buy half of the 2007s out there because of the balance shaft problem. You'd be much better off, in my opinion, with a late 2007 (as I have) or a 2005 E320. The advantage of the 2005 would be the five speed transmission, which is bullet proof to 100k mi, while the newer transmission in the later cars requires service every 40k miles. I'd be suspicious of a newer model even if outside of the balance shaft issue if there isn't documentation of the transmission services.

My 2003 e500 runs drives awesome. I could careless about opitions a v8 engine strong trans is all i need. Thanks for the help. But yes also heard 03 arent bad because they arent affected with the balance shaft problem. Only big issue was the radiator going out and sending coolant into the trans. But thsts all done. V6 and 06 and up were the issues as far as i know.

If you get an 07-09 4Matic, you'll still get the old 5-speed transmission. Only the RWD models got the 7-speed. One thing to keep in mind with the pre-07 cars is the SBC brakes that will require an eventual pump replacement.
