Wow I see you finally got the heap running---yep that's the classic diesel compression blow by----you are correct do a compression test.
Additionally if you are very careful, stop the engine remove the oil fill cap and place your hand with a folded rag over the oil fill opening and have someone start the car----can you feel any upward pressure on your hand-----simply yes or no!!

I hope your cdi does not have the vibration old mammoth does?
Easy test for blowby is putting napkin. Good engine should not blow it.
When napkin flies, try a piece of cardboard. If cardboard blow, then it is time for compression test.
Ford owners are happy when reversed oil cap doesn't fly.

if they do,then i should try to rip cardboard, and put in in the oil filler opening, and see if they fly??
should the napkins and cardboard be tight in the oil filler opening??
i will try tomorrow, and report back,i will take a compresion test,if the cardboard fly out.but are there any change that it is the exhaust valve seals?
thanks anyway,so no i quess that changing engine will be the next thing i need to do,i know the dude on the car graveyard, and i will get a used engine cheap, i do some work for them,"i make parts with my lathe, and fix things for them".so it will not cost me so much.
