2003 E320 - Exterior Door Handle issue
Tonight while opening my drivers door from the outside, I heard a popping noise and the door handle no longer retracts back into its original position, I have to force it to land flush against the door where it belongs. It is almost like a spring broke in there, as it feels like a spring pulling the handle back towards the door after the door opened, when properly working.
The door still opens and closes with the exterior door handle, it also locks, but the exterior handle just feels stiff and as already deacribed, does no longer move back into its original position on its own and I need to push it towards the door.
- Has anyone experienced this or something similar?
- Is there a spring in there which may have broken, or just disengaged itself from its original mounting position/location?
- Is there a fix? Do I need to pull the interior door panel in order to get to it?
Any help anyone can provide is greatly appreciated, many thanks in advance.

Removed the door handle today and found a broke plastic piece in there which no longer engages with the door handle. The spring which is suppose to retract the door handle is attached to the white plastic piece, and it now no longer engages with the handle due to it being broke.
Anyone have the part number for this piece? I would assume l need to remove the interior door panel to get to it?
Thanks in advance.

Sorry, as you are correct, a year later I do no longer remember what the part number was. I did remove the interior door panel and took the complete sub assembly out and removed it from the door handle and took it to the local dealer. they had the replacement part in stock for I believe around 70 bucks. Replaced that and all was good.
