Manual Transmission / Engine Swap

I have been trying to read up on this for the past week or so but cant really seem to find much information so have resorted to a new thread.

I have the opportunity to purchase a 2006 E350 wagon at a greatly reduced cost because of a transmission failure. After reading about the issues the 722.9 transmission frequently experience my first though was the possibility of a 6 speed manual swap. I do understand that 320 models were available with the manual overseas and the later C300 was brought here with it as well.

Are these or any other manual transmissions physically compatible with the M272 3.5l engine? Yes I do understand there will likely be challenges related to control system integration but just to start I want to get an idea if there is a part that will function mechanically.

Also if the transmission swap is not possible or cost prohibitive I was considering the possibility of a complete GenIII GM drivetrain swap. We have done plenty of these in the past, but again my primary concern here is integration into the MB electronic/control systems. We already have a donor car so I am serious about this.

Thanks in advance for any insight you guys may have into this.

I like your enthusiasm, but those things make no economical sense, so you have to have lot of time on your hands and you already have a donor.
I heard about only 1 similar project where W210 was outfitted with Supra engine.
You can find pictorial on benzworld.
It was shop owner (I remember body shop) who did the project and still took him about a year and his zestimate $18,000 on labor cost (which he did not pay directly having inside job)
Good luck.

Thanks for the link. I will go through it and see what he has to say about getting the MB chassis what it needs from the toyota control system.

$15K does not seem too bad considering he was including labor. Even if he owns a shop still have to pay your guys for the work.
